Henry ANDERSON

1895 - 1965

Hjalmar ANDERSSON was born 20 Feb 1895 in Hallaryd, Hallaryd, Almhult, Kronoberg, Sweden. His father was Anders Goransson, son of Goran Johannesson and Ingierd Jonsdotter. Henry's mother was Ingrid Andersdotter, daughter of Anders Persson and Nilla Persdotter.

"Henry (born Hjalmar Andersson) is my grandfather's uncle, who moved to the US, and beside letters from him and his sisters, we didn't know much about what happened to him." [*DA]

"Henry's name before he moved to US was Hjalmar, and we also spell the last names with 2 s. My paternal grandfather's father is Karl Alex Andersson. His sisters were also in US. Two came home, and the other two (plus Henry) we don't really know anything about. I recently got my hands of a lot of letters that Henry's sisters sent home from US, and I'm trying to read them to learn more (not easy with the old language and handwriting!). " [*DA]

"I'm sending along a photo of Henry with his parents and some of his siblings. Henry is the young boy in the middle." [*DA]

Henry immigrated to the United States in 1911. He became a Naturalized citizen of the United States in 1924.

Alice Pelegia LANGNER became his wife in 1916. They had three children: Florence (1918-1971), James Carl (12 Feb 1919 - 15 Feb 1963), and Beatrice (1924-1978).

According to his 1942 World War II Draft Registration card he lived at 5230 W. 30th Street, Cicero, Cook County, Illinois, with his wife. He worked at Miehle Printing Company at 14th Street and Damen Avenue, in Chicago.

“Henry Anderson was not a full time barber, but he gave haircuts. One day he came with his wife to our house. He gave me a haircut while I was sitting on a chair in the kitchen." [*HJL]

Henry ANDERSON died 24 Sep 1965, and he was buried in Resurrection Cemetery, Justice, Cook County, Illinois.
